When the Bible gives its creation account, is it speaking metaphorically, or is there truth in it? Certainly, if the Bible is true from cover to cover, there will be evidence to support the Biblical accounts of creation, flood, and human history. Given the modern scientific climate, it appears on first glance that such evidence does not exist, and that the evidences found show a vastly different origin of the earth and mankind than is presented in the Bible. What we must ask is whether the current scientific understanding is correct - is there another way to view the evidence that holds up to scientific scrutiny while matching the Biblical record?

The modern scientific view of origins and evolution are founded on the presupposition that there is no God. The scientist of today must find a way to explain everything without resorting to any supernatural source. To do so, however, has plunged the scientific community into an ideological camp every bit as religious as the believer in Biblical creationism. All evidence is immediately assumed to fit into the current understanding of evolutionary time, regardless of the logical leaps that must occur. Plain evidence to the contrary is either ignored, suppressed, or distorted to fit the presupposed sequence of events. Gone is the scientific method. Gone is rational thought. Dissenting views are suppressed because many scientists, consciously or unconsciously, fear their house of cards may tumble at the slightest breath.

Modern thinkers and scientists who have come to agree with the Bible's account of creation are ridiculed and dismissed out-of-hand without serious consideration of their ideas by the mainstream. Even when a creationists idea has nothing to do with origins or evolution, their entire career and body of thought is regarded with contempt. Despite the hostility, however, a greater number of truly scholarly works are coming forward. Evidences that were once used to support evolution are now being shown to support the creationist view. The facts are not being changed, only the basis by which the facts are interpreted.

Let us consider some of the facts surrounding a few of the major tenets of modern science. It is my hope that this will begin a process of systematic thinking that will help the Christian reclaim the role we once had in originating much of the modern scientific world. It was the Christian world view that developed the scientific method, and saw nature as a complex system following consistent principles of behavior. Many early scientists, archaeologists, cosmologists, and mathematicians were also Biblical scholars who used scripture to gain understanding of their fields of study. Perhaps the growing atheistic world view that has invaded science and popular thought has caused us to misinterpret many of the very signs that show the activity of God in creating man and nature.
